Houdenbek MTB Routes

We have three mountain biking routes to choose from: 10 km, 25 km and 34 km. All routes start behind the cottages and are clearly marked with red arrows on yellow boards. The routes consist mainly of jeep track and single track, taking riders through rugged landscapes, across bridges, and past some of the farm’s most scenic views.

Please carry enough water, ride in pairs or share your expected return time, and help us preserve the natural environment by taking everything you bring along back with you. Wildlife may be encountered along the way. While baboons are generally harmless and more afraid of you than you are of them, they should always be treated with caution.

Mountain biking is an adventure sport and should be approached responsibly. A helmet is essential, and riders should exercise caution at all times. Cell phone reception is available on both of the large dam walls.

Most importantly, enjoy the trails, take in the scenery, and ride safely.

10 KM TRACK

  • Follow the red arrows.
  • The route includes sections of single track ridden out and back.
  • Stay alert for oncoming riders on your return.
  • One short technical rocky section, with the rest being straightforward riding.

25 KM TRACK

  • Follow the red arrows.
  • A highly enjoyable route with mostly straightforward single track.
  • Minimal technical sections throughout.
  • At two points on the single track, you’ll reach a split. Follow the 26 km markers.

35 KM TRACK

  • Follow the red arrows.
  • A more challenging route, please ride with caution.
  • This route includes a variety of standout sections:
    • The water snake bridge: 36 m bridge over a dam
    • Granny Galore switchback hill: A steep climb to get the heart rate up
    • Jarco Forest: Single track with multiple bridges through pine trees
  • At two points on the single track, you’ll reach a split; follow the 40 km markers.

HEIVELD ARCH WALK FROM HOUDENBEK

We have three hiking trails to choose from: the Leopard Trail (10.8 km), Heiveld Arch Trail (5.6 km), and Daisy Trail (5.8 km). All routes start behind the cottages and are clearly marked, making them easy to follow. Enjoy scenic walks through rugged rock formations, indigenous fynbos, and the natural beauty of the Koue Bokkeveld.

Please note that there is little to no cell phone reception on these routes. Be sure to carry enough water, stay together, and remain on the marked trails at all times.
